Overview

The Vigor2920Vn is a Dual WAN broadband router with Load Balance and Fail-Over. It has one normal Ethernet WAN and one Gigabit WAN port to connect to DSL/Cable/VDSL2 modem or Ethernet FTTx device (up to 150 Mbps). There are advanced features supporting secure network management (Firewall & CSM), bandwidth management (QoS, Session Limitation & Bandwidth Control), remote data access (VPN), wireless data communication (IEEE 802.11n standard WLAN), low cost telephone traffic (VoIP), etc., making this router ideal broadband access devices for SOHO and business users.

The USB port allows connection with 3.5G USB modem as 2nd WAN, USB printer for printer sharing and USB flash drive for file server.

The 4 x Gigabit switch allowing faster sharing of larger files, such as video or media documents among network users.

The Vigor2920Vn is designed with object-based SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) firewall to detect malicious packets, such as Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, and prevent these from jeopardizing the internal home or office network thus ensuring upmost network security and reliability.

The Content Security Management (CSM) feature allows control of access to websites based on their content; for instance, websites with obscene or objectionable content can be blocked by the parents to ensure safe browsing by young children in the family. Furthermore, peer-to-peer applications that tend to consume big bandwidth and sessions can be managed easily by ticking the CSM options.

The Vigor2920Vn supports 32 x LAN-to-LAN VPN tunnels secure remote data access, such as inter office, or home-office communication with strong VPN functionality with all major VPN protocols: PPTP, IPSEC, L2TP and L2TP over IPSEC, including advanced DES, 3DES encryption engine and IKE automated key management, etc.

The Wireless LAN feature supports the extended benefits of the 802.11n including reliable data transmission, secure access methods including WEP/WPA/WPA2/MAC Access Control/SSID, and easy setup for home/office. Furthermore, features such as WLAN Isolation, Wireless Rate Control, WDS, etc. allow easy but powerful control over the WLAN management.

The VoIP functions enabling the users to save telephone costs. Additional PBX functions allow the users to handle calls in the same ways as with traditional PABX, including call transfer, call forward, call holding/retrieving, etc. Digit Map function further allows flexible add/subtract/replace of numbers to simplify numbering in homes or offices.

A Line port allows connection to a PSTN line so the user can select either the PSTN or VoIP for the calls, and can access the PSTN line during power or Internet failure.

Application

The Vigor2920Vn is firewall broadband routers for connecting to xDSL/cable/VDSL2/Ethernet FTTx. The Gigabit WAN and 4-port Gigabit LAN switch facilitates unified communication applications in business CO/remote site to handle large data from subscribed higher speed broadband. The state-of-art router feature, VPN, security , Dual WAN provides integrated benefits for professional users and small offices.

Figure 1. Hardware Connection

Load-balance and backup

You can combine the bandwidth of the Dual WAN to speed up the transmission through the network. The Gigabit WAN port is ideal for connection to fast Internet feed such as Fiber and VDSL2. The 10/100 Base-Tx port can act as back up or primary WAN, which is suitable for sharing bandwidth of xDSL or cable modem. In case of your primary ISP or DSL line suffering temporary outage, WAN-backup offers you redundancy to let the secondary Internet access temporarily route Internet traffic. All traffic will be switched back to your normal communication port as services are resumed.

The Dual WAN features of Vigor2920 series ensure your operational efficiency and business network continuity.

Figure 2. Load-balance and backup

Enhanced Security

The Vigor2920 series offer your robust firewall options with both IP-layer and content-based protection. The DoS/DDoS prevention and URL/Web content filter strengthen the security outside and inside the network. The enterprise-level CSM (Content Security Management) enables users to control and manage IM (Instant Messenger) and P2P (Peer-to-Peer) applications more efficiently. The CSM hence prevents inappropriate content from distracting employees and impeding productivity. Furthermore, the CSM can keep office networks threat-free and available.

With CSM, you can protect confidential and essential data from modification or theft.

Figure 3. Enhanced Security

Comprehensive VPN

For remote tele-workers and inter-office links, the Vigor2920 series provide up to 32 simultaneous VPN tunnels (such as IPSec/PPTP/L2TP protocols) for secure data exchange and communication.

With a dedicated VPN co-processor, the hardware encryption of AES/DES/3DES and hardware key hash of SHA-1/MD5 are seamlessly handled, thus maintaining maximum router performance. The LAN-to-LAN and remote dial-in capabilities are ideal for remote office linking or tele-worker connections to access branch or head office resources to handle upcoming tasks wherever they are.

Vigor2920Vn comprehensive VPN functions simply escalate productivity in a secure and convenient approach.

Multi-task USB functionalities

Through mobility, brought by cellular networks, you can connect 3.5G USB mobile to 2.0 version USB port on Vigor2920 series. This can be used for your primary Internet feed while you are on the bus, in a car at your summer house or enjoying outdoor events. The 3.5G USB mobile can be a backup broadband connection if the primary fixed line drops. The Vigor2920 series USB port can also be used to add storage memory. You can connect USB disk or hard-drive to USB port for file sharing. The Vigor2920 series provides FTP access file uploading/downloading, which can be used from the local LAN or from anywhere on the Internet. If you are a freelance journalist, you can let newspaper or magazine download your report and photo because you deploy file depository on Vigor2920 series. The access can be using "username and password" or "public". Each of them can have their own directories and/or file access rights.

Advanced Management via WLAN

Vigor2920Vn is embedded with IEEE802.11n WLAN. Besides the encryption methods of WEP/WPA/WPA2 and MAC address control, it also offers wireless LAN isolation, Wireless VLAN and 802.1x authentication. WDS (Wireless Distribution System) can help uses extend wireless coverage easily. Moreover, the wireless rate WMM (Wi-Fi Multimedia) keeps the priority of voice, video and audio applications in a Wi-Fi network. The bandwidth allocated for video and when traffic conditions change, the video traffic will maintain its allocated bandwidth, where as the remaining bandwidth is hared by non-priority traffic. While watching video, you are less likely to see slow action. WMM lowers priority of other network traffic, which is not time-critical such as large file downloading.

Vigor2920Vn's WLAN advanced management capability takes away concerns of coverage and security.
