Overview

The Vigor2820Vn is an ADSL2+ router with 2nd Ethernet WAN or USB port for 3.5G USB modem. The 2nd WAN connects to DSL/Cable modem, fiber media converter or 3.5G USB modem for Load Balance and Fail-Over. There are advanced features supporting secure network management (Firewall & CSM), bandwidth management (QoS, Session Limitation & Bandwidth Control), remote data access (VPN), wireless data communication (IEEE 802.11n standard WLAN), low cost telephone traffic (VoIP), etc., making this router ideal broadband access device for SOHO and business users.

One of the four Ethernet ports is a Gigabit port allowing faster sharing of larger files, such as video or media documents among network users.

The Vigor2820Vn is designed with object-based SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) firewall to detect malicious packets, such as Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, and prevent these from jeopardizing the internal home or office network thus ensuring upmost network security and reliability.

The Content Security Management (CSM) feature allows control of access to websites based on their content; for instance, websites with obscene or objectionable content can be blocked by the parents to ensure safe browsing by young children in the family. Furthermore, peer-to-peer applications that tend to consume big bandwidth and sessions can be managed easily by ticking the CSM options.

The Vigor2820Vn supports 32 x LAN-to-LAN VPN tunnels and secure remote data access, such as inter office, or home-office communication with strong VPN functionality with all major VPN protocols: PPTP, IPSEC, L2TP and L2TP over IPSEC, including advanced DES, 3DES encryption engine and IKE automated key management, etc.

The Vigor2820Vn supports up to 30 PC users for Smart Monitor. It can capture, filter and analyze network information for different purposes by integrating with Vigor2820Vn. With Smart Monitor, the administrator can adopt the content that user cares and restore the data to readability information and produce various reports for reference.

The Wireless LAN feature supports the extended benefits of the 802.11n including reliable data transmission, secure access methods including WEP/WPA/WPA2/MAC Access Control/SSID, and easy setup for home/office. Furthermore, features such as WLAN Isolation, Wireless Rate Control, WDS, etc. allow easy but powerful control over the WLAN management.

The VoIP functions enabling the users to save telephone costs. Additional PBX functions allow the users to handle calls in the same ways as with traditional PABX, including call transfer, call forward, call holding/retrieving, etc. Digit Map function further allows flexible add/subtract/replace of numbers to simplify numbering in homes or offices.

A Line port allows connection to a PSTN line so the user can select either the PSTN or VoIP for the calls, and can access the PSTN line during power or Internet failure.

Application

The Vigor2820Vn is an ADSL2+ router with 2nd Ethernet WAN. This 2nd WAN can connect to DSL/Cable modem or fiber media converter for policy-based load-balance, fail-over and BoD; it also features advanced bandwidth control mechanisms such as IP-layer QoS, NAT Session Limitation, Bandwidth Borrowed, etc., to allow easy, flexible and reliable access control and bandwidth management.

You can connect your regular analogue line (PSTN/POTS*) to the Line port of Vigor2820Vn. While you enable VoIP facility, you still can access fixed line (analogue line) to make calls just by dialing #0. The phone connected to Line port and FXS port can be used for both POTS callas and VoIP because the incoming calls are automatically switched through to your telephone (s) (either one or both). As a result, both analogue telephones plugged into your router allow you to access VoIP and analogue line. Furthermore, you can set rules through "Digit-Map" function about particular call destinations using either your SIP/VoIP service or the POTS line. e.g. you can route local calls via your PSTN line (if you have a free calls package) whereas international callas can go via your preferred VoIP provider; there is flexibility to have several digitmap rules.

VPN Firewall Application

With hardware-based implementation of the VPN protocol, the Vigor2820Vn supports up to 32 VPN tunnels using advanced protocols such as IPSec / PPTP / L2TP / L2TP over IPSec with AES / DES / 3DES for encryption and MD5 / SHA-1 for authentication.

The SPI firewall uses Object-Based design to make setting of firewall policies easy. The CSM feature allows more precise and efficient access control for URL / Web Content Filtering, IM and P2P applications.

Figure 4. VPN Firewall Application

CSM / 3.5G Fail-over Backup

Vigor2820Vn's CSM (Content Security Management) function can block selected P2P and instant message applications. This would not only help employees stay focused on their job but also prevent possible treats from those applications damaging corporate essential data severs.

3.5G fail-over backup can keep business continuous during downtime of the leased line from ISP.

Wireless Application

Vigor2820Vn models comply with IEEE802.11n standards. They support WEP / WPA / WPA2, encryption and MAC Address Control, Wireless LAN Isolation, Multi SSID and 802.1x authentication. The Wireless Rate Control function can adjust the data rate of each wireless station ( client ). WDS can help users to extend wireless coverage easily.

VoIP Application

Vigor2820Vn models provide twin analogue phone and one line port. It supports multiple SIP Registrars with high flexible configuration and call handing options.

Benefits of Digit-Map for FXS port and Line Port

You can connect your regular analogue line (PSTN/POTS*) to the Line port of Vigor2820VnVn. The implementation of Digit-Map facilitates the VoIP calls with SIP account as well as plays "Least Cost Routing" functionality.
