Overview

Convergence of Networking and Telephony

Up until now, implementing a PBX system to manage the telephony requirements for businesses can be a nightmare, especially without the right equipment. The true legacy of the legacy PBX system is one of wiring complications with analogue lines, messy extension configurations, and difficulties supporting VoIP arrangements. In addition, there are a multitude of devices, products to be connected and configured to work together. Last but not the least, staff need to be trained to make calls based on the hardware systems, but not the way they are accustomed to.

In response to these developments, DrayTek has produced VigorIPPBX 2820, which combines comprehensive IPPBX functions with the award-winning Dual WAN Security router, Vigor2820 series routers.

The perfect marriage of a flexible and easy to manage/use IPPBX with a reliable Dual WAN, the full featured DrayTek router means:

  • Improved capacity to deliver better services.
  • Flexible and cost effective investment on communication infrastructure.
  • Secure and reliable data and telephony networks to ensure zero interruption to business activities.

The key PBX features of VigorIPPBX 2820

  • Allows you to take control of your telephony system with ease, allowing full flexibility in designing a reliable and effective telephone system, with hardware configuration and operational rules that fit your company or organization.
  • Reduces telephony call charges and support expenses. Through SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) the inbound and outbound calls between the internal and external callers can be routed over the SIP network, bypassing the costly and cluttered connections of PSTN.
  • Hosts up to 50 extensions, allowing all registered IP phones in the LAN or remote sites around the world to have unlimited free calls through Internet, thus improving the internal communications.
  • Supports IP phones, Softphones (for PC/NB/Smartphones), ATA devices (optional, e.g. VigorATA24), and analogue telephones (including DECT phones), making the connectivity of the PBX network simple and flexible.
  • Supports full PBX functions, such as Auto Attendance, Call Forward/Parking/Barring, Digit Map, Hunt Group, Voice Mail to Emails, and so on.
  • Supports Caller Detail Records. This can list caller records for operation review purposes such as relationship-building with customers.

The key router features of VigorIPPBX 2820

Dual WAN / Bandwidth Management

In addition to the primary ADSL interface, the VigorIPPBX 2820 has a second WAN port to connect a second xDSL modem or any other Ethernet-based Internet feed, including xDSL, Cable, or Satellite, and a USB port to connect a 3G Mobile Broadband for as backup Internet access.

With dual WAN, not only that you will have consistently high voice quality over the phone with stable connectivity, you won't ever have to worry about any downtime from your ITSP's system affecting your operations.

To make good use of the Dual WAN capacity, you will have the freedom to setup the WANs to work in any of Failover, Load Balance or Load Sharing modes. The Failover mode means that in the event of an unexpected disturbance to the network, continuity of business and disaster recovery is guaranteed. You also have the freedom to share the broadband capacities provided by the dual WANs.

Firewall

VigorIPPBX 2820's flexible object-based firewall secures your network with DoS/DDoS prevention and URL/Web content filters, protecting your network from exterior threats whilst maintaining control from within. The SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) firewall allows inspection of data packets in the deeper fields to ensure no undue bugs are passed in or out of the network.

Furthermore, the all powerful CSM of (Content Security Management) of VigorIPPBX 2820 allows network administrators to set up policies for users with extreme ease. These cover IM (e.g. MSN), Web applications, P2P (e.g. BitTorrent), URL filter, and so on. There is also a Web Content Filter, powered by Commtouch, which allows the blocking/passing of undesirable web pages by simply ticking or un-ticking the categories (e.g. Child Protection, Gambling) you wish to prohibit.

Virtual Private Network

VPN has been the leading feature in the success of DrayTek routers since the early days. Now, with the hardware-based VPN platform and hardware encryption systems AES/DES/3DS, VigorIPPBX 2820 supports all major protocols (such as IPSec/PPTP/L2TP) for up to 32 VPN tunnels.

USB Port

VigorIPPBX 2820 is equipped with a USB port that supports 3G Mobile Broadband, FTP protocol and Printer Servers.

For example, a hard drive flash-based USB storage device connected to VigorIPPBX 2820 acts as a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) server, and users can access its contents with any FTP client from LAN or WAN. This means you can download files, e.g. retrieve presentation files, when you are out and about, around the clock.
